Re-designing the whole kitchen takes a lot of work, and a big budget. It’s often a room you’ll spend the majority of your time, so it’s no wonder it can feel a little tired after a while. But there are some small and simple changes that you can make in the kitchen to give it a refresh and a whole new look for 2019.
These small changes could be all your space needs this year, and it’ll save you a whole load of time and money than changing the whole room.
Add in open shelving
Open shelving is great if you’ve got a big wall to fill, and wooden shelves will add a gorgeous industrial design element to the space, allowing your open shelves to become wall art.
Open shelves are great for a design element, as well as showing off your favourite glassware or cookbooks. Plus, they’re great for even more storage.
Paint the walls
Even if you’re tired of the kitchen cabinets, painting the walls will make them look newer. Dark kitchens are a huge trend at the moment, but if you have light kitchen cabinets then painting the walls a dark hue is a great way to get in on the trend. Plus, paint on the walls is really easy to switch up when you get tired of it.
Add in some new lighting
Lighting, although functional can be great for adding in a design element to the space too. Additional lighting like LED under cabinet lights, overhead lights, or plinth lights create a beautiful ambiance in the space which is perfect for of an evening and when you’re entertaining.
Get smart with your cabinet space
If the reason you’re wanting a whole new kitchen is down to more storage space in your cabinets, then a simple re-evaluation of the space can make a big difference. You can make more of your cabinet space with a few smart purchases like plate shelves, or storage for your pots and pans, a lazy Susan or shelving inserts so you can see everything easily in your cupboards. Asses what space you want and need and make a list of smart choices for your cabinets.
Paint the cabinets
Something that requires a bit of effort on your part, but it’s completely worth the payoff at the end. Painting the cabinets can be hard work, but the finished result is something that won’t cost you loads and will look gorgeous in the end. Two toned cabinets look great for neutrals too, paint the overhead cabinets a lighter shade and then the bottom ones a darker tone for a statement look in the kitchen.
Add in a ceiling rack
If the storage space in your kitchen is limited, then a ceiling rack to hang some of your prettiest pots and pans could be a great solution. Make it a feature of the room with some gorgeous dark wood and metallic finishes.
Change your handles
Another great way of giving your cabinets a new lease of life, other than painting them, is to change the handles on them. Switch up the style so they look different when they’ve been installed and they’ll give your kitchen a new look and feel when you walk through the door.
Bring in life
Breathe some life into your kitchen by bringing some life in there in the form of potted plants or herbs. These look great on the windowsill and herbs not only add a design element but can be really useful in cooking too.
