Afternoon Tea at The Sugar Plum Tea Room

I recently visited The Sugar Plum Tea Room in Rhewl, which is a beautiful village near Ruthin in Denighshire, North wales. Have you heard of it?

The grump stayed at home to watch Formula One (his first love), so I went with my mum and dad, my sister, Matt and my friend Sian. I’ve been a number of times now and just can’t help but keep going back! Honestly, this place is just gorgeous. The Tea Room is situated inside a furniture shop which sells the most gorgeous quirky and vintage items (I could certainly spend a big chunk of the grumps money there!!).

Afternoon Tea is served daily after 2pm and you have two options to choose from. These are standard Afternoon Tea for two (which is what we went for) or Sparkling Afternoon Tea for two, which is served with two small bottles of Prosecco (think i’ll go for this next time! 😉)

The standard Afternoon Tea comes with a selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes and two pots of tea or two cups of coffee each. You can also pay for extras, I had a cookies and cream milkshake, which came served in an old fashion milk bottle and was just amazing! 😍

On the bottom layer of the cake stand are the sandwiches, these came with a choice of Tuna Mayo, Egg Mayo, as well as Cheese & Relish…i’m not a fan of Egg Mayo personally so I just stuck with the Tuna Mayo and the Cheese and Relish.

The next layer holds a selection of homemade scones, these are a mixture of traditional and orange scones with sultanas and cherry’s. They come served with butter, homemade jam and clotted cream. 😍

We then move onto the top (and my favourite) layer…the cakes! And what a great selection of cakes there was. I had the Victoria Sponge with Jam and Cream, which was so light and fluffy! I also had the bright pink meringue that you can see in the picture above, this was filled with cream and was just scrumptious! It was baked exactly how a meringue should be…crispy on the outside and slightly sticky in the middle! 😍 There was also a Rocky Road and a Lemon Drizzle on offer, but I left these to my friend…who said they were delicious!

It’s safe to say that I was pretty full after being here…but it is so worth that ‘food baby’ trust me! 😝 If you’re ever in the area, this place is definitely worth a visit, but make sure you book ahead because it gets super busy!

As I said earlier, the grump didn’t come with us this time, but he has been before and I thought I would share some pictures with you that I feel sum up his visit perfectly…😂
